The whole crew in the Smoky Mountains

The whole crew in the Smoky Mountains

I grew up in the Arkansas hill country...

As a kid I spent most of my time exploring creeks and forests, and I still find myself most alive when I'm on mountains and in water.

After high school, I went to OBU, where I received my BS in Education. I met my wife Renee my sophomore year, and a little over a year later we were married...and clueless. After graduating, we moved to the east Arkansas delta where I taught in a rural school and began ministering through YoungLife. These desolate, yet life-giving years, found us pregnant several times over in the midst of a loving community. In time, and with the support of our church and friends, we moved to Jackson, Mississippi so that I might study Scripture more thoroughly at RTS. This degree eventually turned into two as I followed my wife's discernment and began studying Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling. Afterwards, I began working in private practice at The Shepherd's Staff, and eventually accepted a position on the therapy team at Capstone Treatment Center in order to pursue further training.

Through ups and downs, poverty and more poverty, crashing/burning and restoration, our marriage has been refined, broken and refined some more. I am grateful to have been mentored by some truly great men and women along the way. This site, my writing and teaching, are an attempt to honor what has been given to me through training, education and experience. My prayer is that it benefits you well in your journey towards greater intimacy and a richer spiritual life.

In short, my vision for life and vocation is as follows, in the words of Diane Langberg:

"All that we do as those who name the name of Christ is to be both incarnational and redemptive. Our words are to communicate his truth. Our person is to reflect his person. Our lives are to be a living, breathing explanation of his character. Those who sit with us...should have a better understanding of who God is because we have, through our obedience to him and love for him, touched them with the flavor of his presence."
